EveryCat Health Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to advancing feline health by supporting a variety of research and education initiatives, has launched a fundraiser to benefit cats suffering from feline diabetes—which affects one in 230 cats around the country. The 2026 “Springing Into Action for Feline Diabetes” campaign takes place until April 30.

The campaign supports The O’Malley Fund for Diabetes and Endocrinopathies, which is dedicated to the life and legacy of O’Malley, the beloved companion of Kara M. Burns, EveryCat’s Board Vice Chair, and Ellen Lowery. O’Malley went from a feral kitten who was found on the side of a busy highway to a flourishing family member with a sweet and loving nature. Even after living with diabetes for nearly five years, his big personality and heart never diminished until the day he succumbed to the disease.

Kara M. Burns states, “We have all been touched by a feline or human family member living with diabetes and we recognize there is still no cure. To honor O’Malley Lowery-Burns, a feline family member with a big personality and love of life, a fund in his name has been established through the EveryCat Health Foundation. The O’Malley Fund for Diabetes and Endocrinopathies aims to bring awareness and further research to diabetes, one of the most common endocrine disorders in cats.”

“Despite over a century of research, and great strides made in treatments, feline diabetes is still all too common,” said EveryCat’s President and CEO Jackie Ott Jaakola. “We’re proud to support research to help cats like O’Malley, thanks to the help of our generous donors.”
